Shirley Mosteller is a retired opera singer who made her New York City debut at Town Hall under the auspices of the Eleanor Steber Foundation. An alumna of the Academy of Vocal Arts, she performed with the Merola Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Lake George Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre and Piccola Opera. Throughout her career, she sang extensively as Violetta, Lucia, Gilda, Musetta, Norina and Rosina, gave recitals and concert performances, and maintained a private voice studio in the New York City area.
Her journey in church music began as a soloist in high school, eventually leading choirs and serving as music director. She also taught in New Jersey public schools and on the faculties of DePaul University and the Merit School of Music.
As Music Director at NUMC, Shirley leads the Choir, Instrumentalists, and Chimes, weaving music into worship to deepen the message and create a welcoming space for people of all walks of life.
