September 5 Edevotional

Last winter I wrote a series of 13 poems/responses to weekly drawings that Tim made of Temma. I want to share some of these with you for your devotion, your prayer. Temma has in some ways become a centering point for me and for others who spend time with her. You may have those kind of points in your own life—a place, a person, a smell, a touch—recall, remember, and pray with me.

A hint of a smile, and our home is found. A light radiating from the center, the hub of our wheel. The word that I asked for, the word that chooses, relentless and renewing, the viewer and the viewed, the artist and the one being drawn. She gazes at you, sideways, always a gaze at a slant, a truth at a slant. The eyes are harrowing, knowing, a wisdom born of the moment and a word on her lips, tumbling
