March 7 Edevotional
Psalm 107 is a litany of stories, recounting desperate circumstances of danger, of extreme hunger and thirst, of injustice and oppression, of work and vocation turned sour. In each small story, there is a crying out to God, and God’s response. For some of us, reading this Psalm may lead us to think and believe that the crying out to God, the way we pray, whether our discipline of prayer is right and good, is the entire point. But that is not what the Psalmist writes in the last verses of the Psalm. “Those who do right see it and celebrate, but every wicked person shuts their mouth. Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things, carefully considering the Lord’s faithful love.” According to the Psalmist it is not how or when or how much or how right our prayers are. It is the seeing, the paying attention, the careful consideration and the celebration that is the response of faith. This Lent I have been writing a small piece—turning into a poem of sorts—to go with each of fourteen drawings that my partner Tim has been regularly posting. His is a project that is being exhibited at Redeemer College in Ancaster, Ontario. It is a project of seeing, of paying attention, of careful consideration and it has led to celebration.

Mothers Demand Action, Sunday, March 11, 3:00 pm
MDA will have an open meeting here at the church.
Just over a year ago, Moms Demand Action joined forces with gun sense
voters in Illinois working toward the passage of SB1657. It’s taken 15 years
for the state to really look at Gun Dealer Licensing. On February 28, this
important piece of legislation passed through the State House, along with
four other pieces of gun violence prevention legislation. If you are interested
in their work, you can check their website for more information.
Palm Sunday, March 25, 9:15 am
Let us enter into Holy Week on steady, grounded, feet with a Palm Sunday Prayer Walk.
We will meet at the front entrance at 9:15 a.m. on March 25th. We will walk around the
church block, stopping at each corner for an interactive prayer focused on justice-seeking.
Feel free to carry your justice-issue related signs with you on the walk. After the prayer walk,
we will process into the sanctuary with palms.
