“They asked, ‘Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We’ve seen his star in the east, and we’ve come to honor him.’”Matthew 2:2
This week we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, literally meaning to shine upon, to shed light on, to illuminate. We celebrate a star shining on Jesus, illuminating who this child really is, God come in the flesh. I wonder where the light of the star is shining in our time, in this day, leading and guiding the people on their journey to know God? On who, on what am I shining my light, the star of my heart?
Over this Christmas break, my family and I have watched the Netflix series, The Crown, all about the life of Queen Elizabeth and her family. It is very well done and very illuminating of a journey, a marriage, a family lived in the spotlight of a centuries-old tradition of royalty—the coming together of divinity and mortality. It made me think a lot about the church, the body of Christ on earth. Ours is a bringing to light the journey of wise ones on a search. On who, on what will we, Northbrook UMC, shine our light, to show the way?
