“After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee announcing God’s good news, saying, ‘Now is the time! Here comes God’s kingdom! Change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!’” Mark 1:14 and 15
Where is, what is God’s kingdom? What was Jesus announcing, “Here comes God’s kingdom!” Other Jesus’ teachings give us lots of hints to these questions, and Jesus’ life, how he lived those three years of his life that Mark’s story is about. Today, I’m thinking of God’s kingdom being like the an alternative world, along side of but hidden from our everyday world, kind of like the land of Narnia, or the different world my daughter Temma with multiple and profound disabilities invites me into. It’s a world with different “rules”, where everyone is dependent on everyone else, where a strong and relational love is the total environment—judge, law, economy, and political power—all of it is built around love. It’s like a mustard seed that grows into a towering tree where different birds are able to find home; like a coin that a woman lost and goes searching for, sweeping her entire house to find it. It’s small, insignificant, doesn’t seem very powerful, but oh, when I find myself stepping into it, it is magnificent! Change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!
The school is collecting all red objects of different sizes and textures
